Hi! -- Welcome to the Comm 41, Critical Decision Making, site. You will be able to log into the course starting on Wednesday, August 24, the first day of class. In order to log in, simply follow the instructions in your letter from eCampus. (If it's a couple of days before class and you haven't received a letter, it probably means you haven't updated your mailing address with SJUS, so you can contact eCampus at 924-2670 - or better yet, simply go to the help address listed below, logging on the www.sjsu.edu and then going to Ecampus/Distance Ed. All the instructions are there. Also, make sure you are 1) logging into the right section and 2) are not using an earlier password from an earlier semester.) Also, make sure your browser is an acceptable version (Mac/PC -- Netscape 4.76 or 6.2.1; on PC -- Explorer 5.0-6.0 (except 5.5) or Mac -- Explorer 5.0 (if using OS 9) or 5.1 (if using OS 10.1) (DO NOT USE SAFARI IF YOU HAVE A MAC) It is important you have the right browser -- see back of the letter for more info.
Also, please email me at:
stephenhinerman@hotmail.com
under the subject "I'm enrolled in Comm 41" just to let me know you're in the course. Don't worry if I don't email you back -- if you can't get into the course by the evening of the 24th, then call the help number on Thursday at ecampus. Otherwise, unless you have a question, I will just collect your address and won't necessary email you back.
(At this point, there will be NO ADDS under any circumstances -- sorry, the class is overenrolled to anticipate any drops, and the wait list is full.
There are two textbooks for the course: Rothwell, In Mixed Company (we're using the 5th edition) and Epstein, Critical Thinking (3rd edition). They are available at the Spartan Bookstore.
If at any point you experience technical problems, I will do my best to help, but remember, I'm a Comm teacher, not a computer expert. Help is available at eCampus during the week from 9-5 at 408-924-2377 to assist you with technical questions.
Once you're in the course, please just go through and read as much as you can, and check the Mail for a message from me...Click on Mail and you'll see...
If you have trouble after the 26th loging on, please go to http://online.sjsu.edu/help/password.htm to find a form to aid your log in. You might also look at the tutorials available at http://online.sjsu.edu for using Webct (the platform for this course). As of today, there will be no orientation session with me- these have been very poorly attended lately anyway, but generally ECampus does one and the details should be in your letter...but you might check back here periodically to see if I've added a meeting later. I am planning at this point to be on campus in my office on Tueday and Thursday at 9:30-10:30, room HGH 257. If you have any questions at all, please come by - or just come by to meet. But please email me for an appointment...I want to make sure I'm there. I do want to make myself available if you have any questions or concerns that first day.
Look forward to meeting you online soon...
